The Eva Zeisel Collection for Leucos

Beloved designer and ceramicist Eva Zeisel passed away in 2011 at the age of 105, and the last project she worked on was her one and only lighting collection and it has just hit the market. The Eva Zeisel Collection for Leucos is a line of hand-blown Venetian glass fixtures that come in two styles named Summer and Spring, each available as a pendant, wall sconce, or table lamp.

Summer Pendant

The curvy, organic forms most definitely reflect Zeisel’s signature style and offer a beautiful piece of her lasting legacy.

From Zeisel:
“I always like to design at least two shapes together, so that I create a family that relates to each other. These lights are cousins.”

The Capside Lamps, Montreal

December 14th, 2012 - When designer Loïc Bard isn’t sitting through his final courses at Ébénisterie Art of Montreal, he’s running a full time design studio where he is perfecting his woodworking skills, creating clocks, and designing his own collection of jewelery. Bard unveiled his latest creation, The Capside Lamp, last week at Montreal’s Souk@sat design event – which stood out amongst the work of veteran designers. The Capside Lamps are sculpted into an abstract geometric form with a wooden exterior, coated with vibrant colors on the inside. The lamps double as a floor lamp, and a ceiling pendant, giving users the ability to get creative with the playful little lights.

Coral LED Lamp by QisDesign

These cool Coral LED lamps by QisDesign are every bit as mesmerizing as their muse. These contemporary lamps are inspired by the way beams of light bounce off coral's naturally twisting and turning shape in the water. The snaking diffusers evenly distribute light to create constant curls of illumination. Available in tabletop lamps, floor lamps and pendant lights, these lamps make a striking centerpiece when displayed in groups at staggered heights. Go monochromatic, or choose from a range of exotic colors like Gold, Orange, Red, Violet, Yellow/Green and Clear. More details are available at QisDesign.

Laszlo Tompa at Tent London

As part of the London Design Festival, CONTEMPORIST visited the Tent London design event, where Hungarian designer Laszlo Tompa exhibited his latest work, including the Flower Lamps,
Cube Illusion, and Spiral Box.

Descriptions from Laszlo Tompa

Flower Lamps
After finishing my former work “cube illusion” I decided to design hanging lamps. Similarly to the box these lamps consist of wood turned elements. The basic lamp is a hexagonal and pentagonal pyramids that is covered with different no space matching geometric ornaments. The lamp is not transparent, it’s lighting locally, downward. Material: solid cherry wood

Cube Illusion
The box is a simple cube, with a surface covered with no space matching geometric ornaments produced by woodturning. So beside the storage function there is originated a new, unusual, powerful abstract sculpture-looking furniture. At a first glance it’s not visible that the furniture hides a relatively large storage place inside due to the optical illusion of the ornaments. Material: solid cherry wood

Spiral Box
This is an unusual shaped box, in that we can store small objects. The storage function is provided by one drawer with compartments running along on itself the spiral body. The essence of the box is lies in the playfulness. At the first glance there is no chance that the box would have a drawer, but when we draw it we catch up it’s function, and we must push it back and draw it again and again. This object make us be concerned, we must take it in hand, rotate it, gaze it and play with it. This case can be attractive for all age group, as it’s an integration of a toy, a box and statuette.
