BMW has revealed a new show car in Italy which pays tribute to the classic BMW 328 of the 1930s.
The original racing model is considered a milestone in BMW's history, and the 328 Touring Coupe still holds the highest average speed record on the Mille Miglia circuit.
To mark the car's 75th anniversary, the manufacturer has unveiled the BMW 328 Hommage at the exclusive Villa d'Este Concours.
While the concept's styling bears strong resemblance to the Vision ConnectedDrive roadster shown at Geneva, the asymmetric windscreen, elongated grille and leather bonnet straps hint at its historical namesake.
The Hommage is also clearly meant to reflect the 328's 'functional aesthetics' with its extensive use of unpainted carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in the bodywork.
Expect to see that ultra-strong, lightweight material feature in BMW's future models, especially the eco-supercar currently known as the Vision ED.
