Architects Polla Bauer and Andras Onodi sent us some photos of this modern Hungarian architecture that is, no doubt, a labor of love. The young architect couple, who themselves reside in Budapest, undertook this first collaboration together and the results are a contemporary style house presenting an artful marriage of "humble home" with an ultra modern aesthetic, tucked away in a small town. From a certain angle, you can see tradition peeking through in the roofline, but that conventional concept of "house" dissolves with an innovative spin on the structure - a protruding volume that adds a whole new layer of visual interest and living space. The slope house plan boasts single-storey intimacy at the back, while street-side, a two-storey facade offers privacy and views. The dramatic, dark sheet-metal roof contrasts the white plaster house with crisp, contemporary flair. Outdoor entertaining areas are subtle but ever-present, like the balcony extending the length of the upper level and an alfresco dining nook. Minimalist interiors are sun-soaked, natural light flooding the open-concept living space. We love the small but sweet industrial details like the staircase, not to mention bold decor choices like the bedroom, offering a combination of luxury and danger - exactly what a bedroom should be!
