National University, in partnership with national solar energy company SPG Solar, have completed the installation of an 852kW DC solar power project in US state of California.
Two rooftop solar projects have been deployed at the Spectrum Business Park Campus and a solar carport system was installed at the Technology and Health Sciences Center.
National University System vice chancellor Richard Carter said these new systems will reduce the equivalent of about 1,000 tonnes of pollutants annually.
Completion of the solar power system was made possible through a power purchase agreement, arranged by SPG Solar and owned by an indirect subsidiary of Integrys Energy Services.
The rooftop and carport systems comprising over 3,000 solar panels, will generate more than 1.4 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually.
National University is expected to earn savings of more than $1.6m over the next 20 years as a result of the development.
