Energizing Bustle of Japan's City Streets

It’s incredibly energizing to be in a big city, surrounded by crowds of people, flashing lights, and cars zipping past. It’s a complete sensory overload! Things move quickly, though, and sometimes it can seem like you are caught in a big blur of commotion. In these Cityscapes, photographer Stephanie Jung has developed a way to prolong a single moment of this chaotic excitement, particularly along the streets of Japan.
The artist’s work has been described by critics as scenes from everyday life that are, “coated with a vibrating texture of gradual shifts of perspective, intentional transparencies, and intense coloring.” Jung reconstructs these everyday scenes into unique urban spaces.
The painterly qualities of the photographs transform the once tangible forms like street lamps, cars, and people into more abstract shapes and forms. Repetitive patterns and appealing color palettes allow viewers to navigate the blurs of a bustling city through complex paths and textures, without even having to take a taxi!
