Each ManiaMania collection of jewellery is accompanied by a description of its inspirations that’s just about as mystical and cryptic and open to interpretation as the jewellery itself. Reliably there’s some inspiration drawn from the hippie days of the ‘60s and ‘70s. As well as the Art Nouveau influences are those directly related to the collection’s title. “Inspiration is drawn from the warped symbols and telepathic visions experienced by dreamers and astral travellers,” the collection’s notes explain. “Homage is paid to advocates of psychic and spiritual development such as The Theosophical Society established by Helena Blavatsky in 1875 and psychologist and dream analyst Carl Jung.”
If dreams and astral planing are the fire of inspiration for ManiaMania’s latest collection, then the dreamscape they created for the campaign is well suited. Stretches of desert and endless skies, mirrors and painted flowers have a peaceful yet surreal feel in a world inhabited by a solitary Dree Hemingway.
A video of the black body-painted Hemingway creates the same kind of mood, flickering and reversing to create a dream-like feel.
