Aston Martin is showing off a new V12 concept created in conjunction with coachbuilders Zagato at the Villa D'Este Concours this weekend.
Called simply the Aston Martin V12 Zagato, the concept is in the form of an endurance racing car, and is being shown off to gauge customer interest, meaning it is likely to be heading to production.
The car is essentially a rebodied V12 Vantage, which was created after Aston handed Zagato the right to give their supercar a new body.
It will appear in two guises, the road car that is seen in these pictures, and in a racing format that is set to make its racing debut at the Nurburgring on 28 May. The hope is the car will then appear at the Nurburgring 24 hour race on 25/26 June.
The handcrafted aluminium body of the V12 Zagato retains a classic Aston Martin look, but with several Zagato additions. The double bubble roof and the sharply pointed rear end are the most prominent of these. The company claims the two door coupe's bodywork could not have been created using machines, and so every panel was created manually.
As the car is a V12 Vantage underneath, the mechanics remain unchanged, with the 6.0-litre, 510bhp unit expected to produce a similar 4.1seconds 0-60mph time as the standard car.
"The Zagato design language is a perfect complement to our design and engineering expertise. After 50 years of the two companies being associated with each other the partnership has produced some of the world's most iconic cars," said Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin.
"The task for us has been to create a concept that is a natural successor to those iconic cars that have gone before. Matching the technology of the age with the traditional skills vital to deliver such a bespoke and exclusive sports car will lead to a strictly limited run of road going V12 Zagatos."
Aston Martin and Zagato have previously collaborated on the 1961 DB4 GT Zagato, the 1986 V8 Vantage Zagato and the 2002 DB7 Zagato.
