Situated on a former farm in the woodlands of the Berkshires, Bard College at Simon’s Rock is the nation’s only college of liberal arts and sciences for students of high school age. ABA designed a new 53,000 sf Performing and Visual Arts Center. The Center includes mainstage and a black box theatres; rehearsal spaces; a dance studio; and office, classroom and support spaces. Visual Arts facilities include painting, drawing, print-making, sculpture, electronic arts studios, and photo labs.ABA’s design responds to the site’s natural features, the agrarian setting, and the College’s ambitions for a dynamic facility for teaching and performances.

This project received design awards from the Chicago Atheneum; the American Institute of Architects New England Chapter; the Boston Society of Architects; and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.
