Curvacious Tokyo Office Building Hiding A Second Wooden Skin

Located within the Sendagaya neighborhood of Tokyo’s Shibuya ward, this building displaying undulating lines captured in a volumetric architecture steals the spotlight. Spreading over 992 square meters on a 221 square meter corner lot, the Sunwell Muse Kitasando building belongs to a textile planning and trading company. Focusing on female apparel, this structure was designed by Takato Tamagami and Tsutomu Hasegawa to hint towards the curvacious lines of the female body showcased in the bold surface walls revealing a wooden second skin and seen throughout the modern interiors. Directing people inside, the straight line uniting the two contours acts as a binder for the overall design. The visual warmth emanated by the wood is constantly interrupted by openings guiding the light inside. Handling the process from production to retail, the company entrusted this building with its female apparel production and retail section. Sheltering event and meeting spaces, galleries and offices, topped off with a roof deck, the elegant building stands as an iconic identity of the brand’s intentions.
