Project
Marina Bay Sands® Integrated Resort
Singapore / Singapore, 2011

Architect: Safdie Architects

The $6bn, 10 million ft2 Moshe Safdie-designed resort features three 55-storey, 2,560-room luxury hotel towers topped at 200m by a 2.5 acre rooftop park – the world’s longest public cantilever. The project also incorporates two standalone steel-and-glass pavilions rising from the bay (accessible by underwater tunnels); a 1.3 million ft2convention centre; two 2,000-seat performance theatres; a lotus-shaped museum; and over 1 million ft2 of casino, retail, and restaurant space.

According to Va-Chan Cheong, Arup’s project director for the effort, “every element of the project [was] technically challenging to design and build.” We utilized innovative 3D modelling techniques to optimize designs, save time, and improve coordination.

Arup’s multidisciplinary services included structural (including advanced works), infrastructure, civil, maritime, traffic, façade and geotechnicalengineering; building physics; lightingdesign; and fire/life safety, acoustic and risk consulting, as well as programme and project management. We leveraged our global resources for this project, utilizing expertise from the US, UK, Australia, Singapore, China and Hong Kong.
