Since November 2009, China has maintained its position as the largest auto market in the world. In 2009 itself, China produced around 13.79 million units of automobile, of which 8 million units were passenger cars. And here comes the interesting part - most of the cars manufactured in China are overwhelmingly sold within China, with only 369,600 cars being exported in 2009. So, it comes as no surprise that major automobile companies are making their spirited forays into the huge Chinese market, and this time it was the French car maker Peugeot’s chance. They have adroitly managed to conceive the all new Peugeot SxC in Peugeot Style Studios, in Shanghai.
The name itself, SxC, stands for - Shanghai Cross Concept, and by this name we can certainly decipher that this uniquely hybrid car will epitomize the fusion of the convenience of SUVs and the exclusive élan of the luxury sedans. Supposed based on the body styling of Peugeot’s previous Peugeot SR1 roadster concept, this car will have relatively large dimensions. The streamlined body will have a length of 4.870 m, a height of 1.610 m and a width of 2.035 m, with significantly big 22 inches wheels.
Coming to the engine, the vehicle will incorporate an advanced hybrid drivetrain consisting of a 1.6 liter gasoline engine that transmits 218 horsepower to the front wheels, and a 95 horsepower electric motor driving the rear wheels. The fuel efficient mileage will be around 48.7 mpg with expected carbon dioxide emissions of 143 g/km. Moreover, the car can switch to an entirely zero emission electric mode at low speeds.
